Position summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will monitor the day-to day operation of the residential program and the implementation of the Person-Centered-Plan (PCP). Provide diverse training in a therapeutic setting according to the PCP and ensures the safety of all clients in the home and while out in the community.
Duties and responsibilities
- Ensures physician orders are conducted and updates client records daily
- Assist with providing quality care in a residential group home to clients in the areas of community and home skills, appropriate use of leisure time, personal care, communication, social skills, task orientation, mobility, and administer medication
- Ensure safe administration and storage of client medication
- Shops for household groceries and client needs
- Transport clients to doctor appointments as needed
- Conduct programming and record data as required
- Monitor and record the client’s daily food intake
- Implement behavior modification techniques as applicable
- Teach and support clients in adapting to community living and accessing community resources and making choices
- Reports to Program Director
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- The candidate will exhibit practical knowledge of behavior management principles (TOVA), medication management, implementation of basic motor skills, training techniques, food handler’s preparation, alternative communication systems and medical aspects of disabled populations
- Ability to work with clients with intellectual disabilities and enable clients to acquire, improve, and maintain maximum functional abilities
- Train and assist in settings which will allow peer interactions and an opportunity for community and social integration
- Ability to ensure the safety and welfare of clients by adhering to Medicaid, Office of Human Rights, the DBHDS, and OSHA regulations
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills.
