Responsibilities Communicate pertinent medical, genetic, and psychosocial information, including recurrence risk assessment and family planning options, to patients and their family members, as is indicated. Provide initial psychosocial assessments of patients and refer for continued care. Serve as a liaison with genetics/genetic counseling societies, patient support groups, and other non-governmental agencies interested in inherited disease, as requested by the task leader. Assist in clinical and translational research in the Branch, including performing reviews of relevant medical/scientific literature, organizing data, writing manuscripts for publication, and presenting this information at internal conferences and at national/international scholarly meetings. Construct family pedigrees, contact family members, aid in obtaining genetic specimens, and facilitate proper clinical and research molecular testing. Participate in ongoing clinical quality control within the lab, making suggestions for how to best integrate and execute genetic services in the National Institute of Health (NIH). Assist in conducting behavioral and genetic counseling research. Evaluate the potential impact of legislation, papers, reports, and other information on current and planned genetic counseling activities and recommend appropriate action. Brief lab personnel on emerging genetic and genetic counseling issues and recommend responses to such issues. Assist in the preparation and execution of relevant research protocols. Perform additional project work or duties at the request of the task leader. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling required. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Certified or board eligible as a Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Able to be credentialed by the NIH Clinical Center. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD "PUBLIC TRUST"; candidates with an active PUBLIC TRUST or SUITABILITY are preferred. Knowledge of patient privacy, privileged information, and secure handling of patient medical records. Preferred Qualifications 2 years of experience working in a clinical research setting. The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00-$108,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
