MAP Animation Studio – School Outreach Volunteer (2D/3D Animation, Motion Graphics, Storytelling) MAP Animation Studio is a program of Mentor A Promise (MAP), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces through mentorship, academic enrichment, creative expression, and technology-driven initiatives. The MAP Animation Studio brings creative storytelling and design into schools, introducing students to 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, and storytelling. Role Overview Volunteer School Outreach Instructors visit schools and lead workshops that teach students the fundamentals of animation and visual storytelling. Volunteers guide hands-on activities, spark curiosity, and demonstrate how creativity can be a tool for self-expression and empowerment. Key Responsibilities Visit schools and facilitate workshops in 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, or storytelling Deliver age-appropriate, engaging lessons tailored to K–12 students Collaborate with teachers and school staff to adapt content to classroom needs Introduce students to animation tools and creative problem-solving Serve as a mentor, encouraging confidence, teamwork, and creativity Support MAP’s mission of using art and technology to uplift underserved youth Qualifications Experience or strong interest in animation, motion graphics, or storytelling Passion for teaching, mentorship, and youth engagement Strong communication and classroom management skills Ability to simplify technical concepts for young learners Prior teaching, tutoring, or workshop facilitation experience (preferred but not required) Commitment to cultural sensitivity and equity in education Commitment Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week (school visits + prep time) Minimum 6-month commitment preferred In-person delivery at New York City schools (remote prep and planning possible) What You’ll Gain Experience teaching animation and storytelling to K–12 students Opportunities to inspire and mentor youth through creative education Collaboration with a mission-driven nonprofit team Professional references and letters of recommendation The chance to build community impact while developing your teaching and presentation skills How to Apply Please send your resume, LinkedIn profile, and (if available) portfolio or reel to hr@mentorapromise.org along with a brief statement of interest.
